(jd) A 27-year-old man from Herford called the police on Wednesday (27.11.) at around 6.15 pm after a traffic accident had occurred in the Mindener Straße / Magdeburger Straße area at around 6.15 pm: The man from Herford was driving his VW on Magdeburger Straße in the direction of Mindener Straße. He intended to turn right into Mindener Straße when a previously unknown pedelec rider rode alongside the road on the sidewalk there at the same time. When turning, the VW hit the pedelec rider, who then fell onto the road. The 27-year-old stopped his car to check on the unidentified man. The man, who was around 20 to 25 years old, refused the offer to call the emergency services. As the man from Herford wanted to park his car a few meters away to clear the junction, he briefly took his eyes off the man. At that moment, the stranger drove off and the 27-year-old called the police to report the accident, which caused four-figure damage. The officers who arrived noticed forgery marks on the driver's license presented by the 27-year-old. A search of the police systems revealed that the man was not in possession of a valid driving license. He was banned from driving vehicles requiring a license. To further investigate the circumstances of the accident, the Herford police traffic commissioner's office is asking the pedelec rider involved in the accident or witnesses to contact them on 05221/8880.
