Hit and run

(jd) A traffic accident occurred on Herringhauser Straße at 4.55 p.m. on Friday (28.3.). A 53-year-old man from Herford was driving his truck on Füllenbruchstraße in the direction of Hiddenhausen. At the same time, the previously unknown driver of a VW suddenly and unexpectedly turned onto Füllenbruchstraße coming from Herringhauser Straße and entered the Herford driver's lane. Both cars collided, causing damage to property. The VW driver continued driving in the direction of Herford without fulfilling his obligations as a party to the accident, so that the Herford driver turned his vehicle around and also drove in the direction of Herford and informed the police. The 53-year-old then managed to catch up with the VW at the junction with Bünder Straße. The police officers who arrived noticed that the driver of the VW, a 37-year-old from Löhn, showed clear signs of alcohol consumption. A breath alcohol test carried out on the spot was clearly positive, so a blood sample was ordered. The man's driving license was confiscated and he was banned from driving vehicles requiring a driving license. The material damage to both vehicles is in the three-digit range.
