(hd) On Thursday (23.01.2025), the Herford district police authority carried out priority checks on road traffic. Checkpoints were set up at various locations in the district. The aim was to reduce the number of traffic accidents with serious consequences. The officers therefore paid particular attention to the violations that are regularly the main causes of accidents. Of great importance in this context is the inability of drivers to drive due to drug or alcohol consumption. Thirty traffic violations were detected during the checks, including two cases of driving under the influence of drugs and 13 cases of illegal cell phone use at the wheel. One truck driver is facing several charges. He was driving a vehicle that had various technical defects and was overloaded by 30%. He was also unable to produce several required permits. The police will continue to carry out priority checks on road traffic in the future in order to increase the safety of road users.
