Under the influence of alcohol, a 39-year-old man from Bünde caused a traffic accident on Osnabrücker Straße on Saturday evening (27.7.). The man from Bünde was driving his BMW out of town at around 11:45 pm. At this time, a 24-year-old woman from Bad Oeynhausen in a Mercedes Benz and a 28-year-old woman from Bünde in her VW Golf were at a roadworks there. Both drivers had to stop at the red light in front of the roadworks traffic lights due to traffic conditions.
The 39-year-old driver saw the two vehicles stop too late and hit the back of the Mercedes Benz. The force of the impact pushed the Mercedes forward, where it crashed into the waiting VW Golf. All vehicles were severely damaged (approx. 8,000 euros) and the BMW and the Mercedes had to be towed away from the scene of the accident. Fortunately, none of the drivers were injured.
During the accident investigation, a distinct smell of alcohol was detected in the 39-year-old's breath. A voluntary alco-test was positive, so a blood sample was taken from the driver. It is also suspected that he is not in possession of a valid driving license. The traffic commissioner's office has taken over the investigation of the accident.
