(jd) At the weekend, a single vehicle accident involving a scooter rider and his pillion passenger occurred at the junction of Obernackernstraße and Kirchdamm. The 46-year-old scooter rider from Kirchlengern was riding on Oberackernstraße towards Auf dem Fienberge at around 6.50 p.m. on Saturday (3.8.). In a left-hand bend near the junction with Kirchdamm road, he lost control of his vehicle and veered off the road to the right. On a grass verge, the driver skidded over the handlebars and came to rest on a paved driveway. His 42-year-old pillion passenger was thrown over the driver.
The 42-year-old suffered minor injuries, while the 44-year-old, who was not wearing a helmet, was seriously injured. At the time of the accident investigation, the possibility of fatal injuries could not be ruled out. First aiders looked after the two men until the emergency services arrived.
The police officers called to the scene detected the smell of alcohol in both men. A voluntary breath test carried out at the scene showed a positive result for the pillion passenger. A blood sample was taken from the driver at the hospital, where he was taken by ambulance after initial treatment on site.
The officers found that the scooter had been manipulated in such a way that it could reach a higher speed than permitted. The vehicle was seized and criminal charges were also brought against the vehicle owner, a 49-year-old man from Kirchlengern. The 46-year-old does not have the necessary driving license for the scooter. A traffic accident investigation team from Münster was called in to investigate the accident.
