(hd) On Thursday (09.01.2025), the onset of snowfall led to icy roads throughout the district. This resulted in many traffic accidents. As things stand, at least 24 accidents are directly related to the weather conditions. In most cases, the damage was minor. However, people were injured in three collisions. At 12:45 p.m., a 24-year-old man in a Hyundai car intended to turn off Stuckenbergstraße onto Vlothoer Straße in Herford. As he approached the junction, however, he was unable to brake his car in time. The vehicle slid into the junction area and collided with the VW of a 58-year-old man. This driver sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision. At around 1:10 p.m., a 28-year-old man was driving his VW Caddy on Diebrocker Straße, coming from Bielefeld in the direction of Herford. At Hausheider Straße, he drove off the road to the left due to icy conditions and crashed into a tree. The driver suffered minor injuries. In Spenge, a 19-year-old lost control of his BMW on Ravensberger Straße at 9:30 pm. The vehicle skidded into a traffic light pole and was severely damaged. The 19-year-old was taken to hospital with minor injuries. In the current weather conditions, the police are advising drivers to drive carefully and with foresight. Possible delays and traffic obstructions should also be taken into account when making personal plans.
