(jd) Residents of Lübberlindenweg noticed an unknown person shining a flashlight into cars parked on the side of the road last night (9.7.) at 11.55 pm. A few moments later, residents heard a loud clanging noise and called the police. The police officers who were called found that a side window of a Mazda had been smashed. A stranger was in the vehicle and was putting various items in his pockets. Despite repeated requests from the police officers to leave the car, the man refused to comply. The owner of the vehicle, a 25-year-old woman from Herford, then opened the car with a key and the man, who showed clear signs of alcohol consumption, was taken to the Herford police station. Here the officers found various items on the man's person for which he could not provide proof of ownership. At the police station, a blood sample was taken from the man, a 37-year-old with no permanent residence in Germany, by order of the public prosecutor's office. He was taken into police custody to prevent further offenses.
