Traffic accident at an intersection

(jd) A traffic accident occurred on Laarer Straße / Stedefreunder Straße at around 6.40 a.m. on Tuesday (8.4.). A 34-year-old man from Herford was driving his Mercedes on Stedefreunder Straße in the direction of Diebrocker Straße. At the same time, a 39-year-old man from Bielefeld was driving in the direction of Herford on Laarer Straße. When the traffic lights turned green for him, the man from Bielefeld drove into the intersection, where he collided with the man from Herford, who in turn also drove into the intersection. Witnesses told the police officers who were called that the 34-year-old Mercedes driver crossed the intersection even though the traffic light was red for him. Both drivers sustained minor injuries in the accident and were taken to nearby hospitals by ambulance. The vehicles sustained property damage of around 45,000 euros.
