Traffic accident involving a moped

In Rödinghausen, police officers were called to a traffic accident on Osnabrücker Straße at the junction with Schäferweg on Thursday afternoon (22.08). At around 12.25 p.m., an 18-year-old from Rödinghausen and his pillion passenger (15 years old) were riding a moped on the cycle path parallel to Schäferweg coming from Bruchmühlen in the direction of Bünde. He changed from the cycle path to the newly constructed road Osnabrücker Straße. In doing so, he disregarded the right of way of traffic on Osnabrücker Straße. He did not stop at the stop line to give right of way to crossing traffic. At this time, a 26-year-old Opel driver was driving along Osnabrücker Straße coming from Bünde in the direction of Bruchmühen. At the junction with Schäferweg, there was a collision with the moped and the vehicle of the driver from Melle. The driver of the moped was seriously injured. He was taken to Lukas Hospital by ambulance. Another ambulance crew took the pillion passenger, who was also slightly injured, to a hospital in Melle for further medical treatment. Both vehicles (minor material damage) were towed away from the scene of the accident.
