(jd) Yesterday (26.6.) at 6.30 a.m., local residents noticed the front door of a store on Bahnhofstrasse had been demolished. They immediately informed the owner and the police. Once on site, the 43-year-old owner discovered after an initial inspection that no items had been stolen from inside the store. During an initial review of the footage from the surveillance cameras, the officers saw that two unknown persons attempted to force the door open at around 3.47 am. When this failed, they used a tool to smash the door. This triggered an acoustic alarm, causing the two slim people, each carrying a sports bag, to flee in an unknown direction. At the time of the crime, both persons were wearing a light-colored hooded sweatshirt, sports shoes and dark and light-colored sports pants. Their faces were covered. Herford police have taken over the investigation and are asking possible witnesses to contact them on 05221/8880.
