At this time of year, pedestrians and cyclists should make sure they wear light-colored and reflective clothing in traffic. Dark clothing is only visible up to around 25 meters in the dark. Reflective material can be seen at a distance of around 150 meters. At a speed of 50 km/h, the stopping distance is around 28 meters. Bright clothing can therefore prevent traffic accidents.
Visibility is also impaired by fog and showers of snow, rain and sleet, especially in the darker months of the year. Right now, you should pay particular attention to ensuring that you are clearly visible to other road users. Therefore, please note:
- wear bright and reflective clothing
- use crossing aids such as illuminated crosswalks and traffic lights
- and always anticipate driving errors or inappropriate behavior on the part of drivers
When you are a pedestrian on the road, it is not about looking fashionable and good, but above all about your safety.
