Short overview
In total, 7,538 road accidents occurred across the district in 2023. This was 234 more accidents than in 2022, an increase of 3.2%. Of these, 6,818 were road accidents with property damage. As a result, senior citizens, children and young people remain a focus of road safety work by the police in the Herford district.
In the past year, the district police authority reported six road fatalities (-5 compared to 2022).
The main causes of accidents are giving way, turning and speed. In addition, road users must expect increased checks for alcohol and drugs in road traffic as well as the use of cell phones while driving.
